Miami – Dramatic witness video uploaded to Instagram this morning captures a man being shot by Miami Beach Police officers in the middle of Alton Road.
Allegedly the man had just held up a nearby Bank of America, according to Miami Beach Police, and had armed himself with a straight razor from a nearby barbershop before he was shot.
The confrontation started about 10:30 this morning when a hold-up alarm at the 1414 Alton Road Bank of America alerted police; the suspect handed a note demanding money, saying that he was armed with a bomb, the teller told police. The suspect then left the bank without obtaining the money.
Miami Beach police chief stated in a press conference that when officers arrived at the scene, the suspect ran into a nearby barber shop where he refused to leave for some time.
He emerged from the barber shop with his shirt removed and a straight-edge razor in his hand. “Shots were fired and the subject is deceased,” Det. Kathleen Prieto says in a statement.
Police have not released the man’s name yet.
A witness video, uploaded by Marcellus Johnson, shows the disturbing event unfold.
In the video we see a shirtless man in jeans standing in front of a police cruiser having an exchange of words with officers who have their weapons aimed at him. Shortly after the man puts his left hand on the hood of the police cruiser, one of the cops opens fire, and the man falls to the ground clutching his chest.
