Antifascists staged rallies and humiliated nazi groups all over the world on March 15th. The “white man march,” was a massive failure, and led to the humiliation of nazi groups in Arizona and Oregon, who didn’t even show up to their own events. In Centralia Illinois, a lone march organizer showed up to the white man march and was greeted with pepper spray and punches to the face. Antifascists sent him running up the street screaming for help.
A few cowards held banners for photos in Missouri, and in Kentucky, but no real manifestations took place other than in Birmingham Alabama, where six or so idiots stood with signs at a busy intersection. The white man march was hilariously mocked on twitter using the hashtag #whitemanmarchprotestsigns.
Note: Antifascists in the US should take note that David Irving, holocaust denier, is still on a tour of the southern states of the US. More information here.
This increased antifascist activity comes in light of some good news as well. Showan Shattak, known by the hashtag and campaign #KämpaShowan (Kämpa means fight or struggle), who was stabbed by Swedish nazis trained by Svoboda in Euromaidan, has awoken from his coma. While he was asleep, an incredible amount of solidarity was shown for him all over the world. These solidarity actions and photos were very well documented on the facebook page Solidaritet med kamraterna i Malmö. #kämpashowan.
On March 16th, enormous anti-facist rallies went on in honor of him and all the others who have been attacked by the far right.
In the UK, fascism is a threat, and must be crushed in the streets. That’s why hundreds of antifascists came out to oppose the EVF (English Volunteer Force, a splinter group for nazis who are disenfranchised with the EDL) as they held a march, which was protected by police.
About 150 antifascists confronted and blocked the 50 man EVF march, but a group of about 100 of them were kettled by police. A large group broke through the kettle, and were able to confront the EVF march again. Antifascists finished the day by running the fascists out of a local pub while chanting “nazi scum out our pub.”
In Germany antifascists blocked a march of neo-nazi party “Die Rechte” on Saturday, March 15th. Antifa groups succeeded, and the Nazis could not march. Today In Berlin antifascists blocked a gathering of the fascist “Pro Deutschland” party in front of the refugee protest camp at Oranienplatz. Only 3 nazis showed up at the event and for the several hundred antifascists, so it was very easy to overpower and drown out the nazis.
As the far right have risen, so have the antifascists. Some areas present different challenges than others, antifascists in the US have easily crushed nazi gatherings, while comrades in Ukraine are facing a government that has put fascists in high posts and given street gangs like the right sector control of the police forces. On the other hand, Russian controlled media has adopted anti fascist rhetoric to justify Putins own brand of fascism.
Worldwide mobilizations and anti fascist actions are of the utmost importance. There will be an anti-fascist summit in Athens on the 11th, 12th & 13th of April 2014.
There is also an upcoming anti-racist conference in Memphis, Tennessee March 29th and 30th, put on by the Ida B Wells Coalition Against Racism and Police Brutality – the theme for the event is ‘An Anti-Authoritarian and Anti-Capitalist Struggle Against the Mass Imprisonment of POC.’
The struggle continues today in Japan, where anti-fascists will attempt to block a far right demonstration with a human wall. The organizers posted this: “On March 16, Zaitokukai, the largest hate group in Japan, is going to hold a huge rally and demonstration in Ikebukuro. We shall fight them back right at the scene by forming a massive human wall to protest against racism and fascism growing in modern Tokyo.” On March 22nd, Brazilian antifascists will confront an ultra-nationalist march.
